Canada asks the USA to speed up the delivery of NASAMS for Ukraine, which was paid for in March 2023

Canada has appealed the United States of America with a request to quickly transfer the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine, which was ordered last spring, the Globe and Mail reports.

According to the publication, Canadian representatives said that NASAMS for Ukraine was paid for in March 2023. However, the delivery is delayed because the governments of the United States and Ukraine have to conclude an agreement on the sale of military weapons abroad. Negotiations are currently underway on this issue.

"Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair apparently met with US Ambassador to Canada David Cohen last week to ask to speed up the process," the journalists said.

To recap, Canada paid the US government $406 million for the NASAMS air defense system for Ukraine in March 2023. However, the anti-aircraft missile system has not yet been handed over to Ukrainian defenders, although almost a year has passed.
