European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski has warned of a new crisis that could be provoked by "excessive agricultural imports" from Ukraine to the EU and said he may not support the new EC regulation on the extension of duty-free trade with Ukraine. This is stated in a letter from Wojciechowski to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EC Vice President for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis, RMF FM reports.
In his letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Vice President for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis, the Polish commissioner threatens not to support the new EU regulation on the extension of duty-free trade with Ukraine.
Wojciechowski demanded that safeguard provisions and quantitative restrictions on imports of certain agricultural products be included to avoid a crisis with an oversupply of Ukrainian products in the EU, which, according to him, could destabilize the EU market.
Wojciechowski also accuses Russia of creating difficulties for Ukraine and proposes to support the transit of Ukrainian grain through EU ports for export to African and Asian markets.
