Law enforcement officer runs over 14-year-old teenager to death in Volyn region

In Kovel district, Volyn region, a law enforcement officer in a company car caused an accident that killed a 14-year-old teenager, the State Bureau of Investigation reports.


"SBI officers have started an investigation into a traffic accident in Volyn, which killed a 14-year-old pedestrian," the agency reports.


According to the Bureau, the accident occurred around 8 p.m. on January 4 in the village of Pulmo, Kovel district.


"The driver of a police car, a law enforcement officer, did not choose a safe speed, did not take into account the road conditions in the rain and hit a pedestrian. The 14-year-old boy was moving in the opposite direction, and he died at the scene from his injuries," the statement said.


Criminal proceedings have been opened over violation of traffic safety rules (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code). Urgent investigative actions are underway, and a number of examinations have been ordered to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy. 


The media reported that the driver was an employee of the State Border Guard Service.
