Several explosions occurred near the grave of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani on the fourth anniversary of his assassination by the United States, killing at least 73 people. This was reported by the BBC with reference to local television.


Iranian state broadcaster Irib reported that more than 171 people were injured when the explosions occurred during a procession near the Saheb al-Zaman mosque in the southern city of Kerman.


A video was posted online showing several bodies on the road.


It is noted that hundreds of people came to the grave on Wednesday as part of a ceremony to honor the memory of General Soleimani, who was considered the most powerful figure in Iran after the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"According to preliminary data, 73 people were killed and 170 people were injured as a result of two explosions that occurred at an interval of about 10 minutes," the TV channel reports, citing Iranian media.


It is also noted that Iranian state television announced that the explosions were a terrorist attack.


It is clarified that the explosions occurred on the road leading to the cemetery, where a ceremony was held to commemorate the 4th anniversary of the death of General Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
