The West will start confiscating Russian assets in favor of Ukraine in 2024, - Kuleba

Western countries are likely to start confiscating Russian assets in favor of Ukraine as early as 2024. This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba during a telethon.

The foreign minister said that the United States and the European Union have developed specific solutions to the issue of asset confiscation. At the same time, Belgium has already transferred income taxes from Russian assets to Ukraine's needs.

"Now we are in the second phase, when all efforts should be brought together in a single legal framework. That is, unified rules for the EU and G7 countries should be created," Kuleba said.

According to him, since the beginning of 2023, Ukraine has actively encouraged partners to speed up work on this issue. This will be one of the key issues this year.

Kuleba explained that the third stage, the transfer of Russian assets to Ukraine, will begin when the legal framework is approved.

At the same time, the minister was asked when the confiscation of Russian assets in favor of Ukraine would begin.

"This is 2024. I will say this: when it is approved, it will work. Last autumn, we were far from adopting this framework, and now the G7 and the EU are discussing the approval of specific rules. We are close to creating this legal regulation for the transfer of Russian assets," Kuleba said.
