On the morning of December 21, a minibus from Ukraine collided with a truck in eastern Poland, killing one person and injuring others, RMF FM reports.
The accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. local time near the city of Bełżec, not far from the Rawa Ruska-Hrebenne checkpoint. A minibus heading towards Ukraine drove into the back of a truck that was standing in line to cross the border.
"There were nine people in the minibus, all citizens of Ukraine. One person died, all the others were taken to the hospital," said Małgorzata Pawłowska, a spokeswoman for the Tomaszów Lubelski police.
It is noted that the 42-year-old bus driver was sober. The road was closed for at least three hours due to the accident.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry commented on the situation.
"The Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin provides consular assistance to Ukrainians involved in an accident on the Polish-Ukrainian border," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a minibus with 9 Ukrainian passengers collided with a truck that was waiting in line for border control. As a result, one citizen died, while the others sustained injuries of varying severity. They are currently receiving medical assistance.
"Ukrainian consuls are cooperating with Polish law enforcement officers to clarify all the circumstances of the accident and measures are being taken to repatriate the body of the deceased. The issue of transporting the passengers to Ukraine by other means of transportation is also being resolved," Nikolenko added.
