Speaker Johnson decided not to extend the work of the Congress: it is likely that aid to Ukraine will not be approved this year

Speaker of the US House of Representatives, a member of the Republican Party, Mike Johnson, rejected the call of the Senate Democratic leader to extend the work of both chambers for a week to discuss additional funding, in particular, for Ukraine. This was reported by Ukrinform.

Mike Johnson's refusal was commented on in the White House as a step that is inconsistent with US national security.

"As you heard yesterday from the President, the American people will not turn away from Ukraine and its fight for freedom against tyranny. But Speaker Johnson said that the House of Representatives will end its work tomorrow with no agreement on the border, no funding for Israel, no funding for Ukraine's urgent needs," said White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre.

She emphasized that such a move encourages potential aggressors on the world stage.

"The world is watching the actions of Republicans in Congress. Moscow, Beijing and Tehran are all watching. House Republicans should not go home for the holidays when vital steps need to be taken to secure the United States and the world," said Karin Jean-Pierre.
