The Kremlin said that Finland had invented reasons for closing the border and called unacceptable the accusations that Russian border guards deliberately brought migrants to the Finnish border to provoke a crisis. This was reported by the Interfax news agency with reference to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"And if they are trying to find some far-fetched reasons (for closing the border - ed.), then again, we do not accept such accusations against us," he said.
According to Peskov, "border crossings are used by those who have a legal right to do so, and in this regard, our border guards fully comply with all their service instructions."
The Kremlin also commented on reports that Finland may close the remaining checkpoints on its land border with Russia in the coming days.
"This is nothing but deeply regrettable, because we have had long-standing, very good relations with Finland, pragmatic, based on mutual respect. And, of course, we regret that these relations have been replaced by such an exclusively Russophobic position, which the leaders of this country have begun to adhere to," Peskov said.
Earlier we reported that the Finnish authorities may soon decide to completely close the border crossings with Russia due to the influx of asylum seekers from third countries. This was stated by the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti.
