Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said she is interested in the top post of NATO Secretary General. The politician explains this desire, in particular, by Russia's war against Ukraine. This was reported by Politico.
Speaking at a defense summit organized by Politico, Kallas was asked if she wanted to be considered for the post of NATO Secretary General when Jens Stoltenberg resigns. She answered yes.
Kallas explained her desire as the Cold War-era alliance continues to regulate Russia's war in Ukraine and focuses on common strategies against China and other emerging threats.
"Kallas's response and her visit to Washington came amid growing concern in Europe, especially among leaders in the Baltic states and Eastern Europe, such as Estonia, that US support for Ukraine's military efforts is waning," the report said.
In particular, in her speech, Kallas expressed confidence that Ukraine would repel a Russian invasion, as concerns are growing on both sides of the Atlantic that Ukraine and Russia are approaching a "dead end" on the battlefield.
"I fully understand and believe that they can be defeated. And Ukraine can win this war," Kallas said.
