Reshuffle in the UK government due to the scandal: new heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The UK government is undergoing a reshuffle. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is reshuffling the Cabinet, and new heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have already been appointed, Sky News reports.

The publication notes that the reshuffle is being carried out amid preparations for the general election, which may take place within the next 12 months.

James Cleverly, who previously headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was appointed as the new Home Secretary. Earlier in the morning, Suella Braverman was dismissed as the head of the Home Office.

Jeremy Hunt, who was appointed Finance Minister during Liz Truss's premiership, is still in place, Downing Street said.

Former Prime Minister David Cameron has become the new Foreign Secretary. This decision was made by Sunak after the former head of the department, Braverman, resigned due to the scandal.

Last week, Braverman wrote a newspaper article in which she criticized the actions of the police in London during a controversial pro-Palestinian march in honor of Armistice Day. After that, the official was accused of undermining the "operational independence of the police" and public confidence in them. Critics from both opposition and conservative parties called Braverman's comments "offensive" and "incendiary." Prime Minister Sunak was forced to respond to the situation.
