The engineering troops of the Israeli Defense Forces have launched a large-scale operation to destroy Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip, which have already been entered by IDF units. This was reported by The Times of Israel.
"Army engineers are launching a large-scale operation to destroy Hamas tunnels in areas of the Gaza Strip that have been under Israeli control since the start of the ground offensive," the report said.
Combat sappers use various types of robots and explosive devices to destroy tunnels, detonate any mini traps set by Hamas, and kill terrorists.
"They might have been chasing us at first, stinging us by shooting from the tunnel exits, but after we established control of the areas, the engineering operation began," said a senior officer in the IDF Southern Command.
"We're going to collapse the entrances and tunnels on them. This will become a death zone. They made a mistake, they chose a place where they cannot escape. They will die in the tunnels," he said.
It is noted that Israeli troops have already destroyed about 100 tunnels, not including those that were neutralized by air strikes.
