Evacuation from Gaza has begun, but Ukrainian citizens have not left yet - Ambassador to Egypt

Evacuation from the Gaza Strip has begun, but Ukrainian citizens have not yet left. Ambassador of Ukraine to Egypt Mykola Nahorny said this on Radio Liberty.

According to him, the Egyptian side has agreed to allow about 500 people to leave Gaza, but there are no Ukrainian citizens among them.

"The principle is more or less similar to the fact that countries go alphabetically. But so far, these are not our citizens," Nahorny said.

The diplomat said that the number of Ukrainians who need to be evacuated from Gaza has increased.

"We have a slight increase in the number of people who want to evacuate. As of today, it is 358 people. We have practically worked out an algorithm for how this will be done... The lists have been submitted to the Egyptian and Israeli sides for approval," the ambassador informed.

He noted that among the Ukrainians awaiting departure there are hospitalized people - wounded or sick. The Egyptian Red Cross should help with their evacuation, the ambassador said.

"We have established contacts with the Egyptian Red Cross. That is, if the evacuation is allowed, the Egyptian side will be ready to assist in the evacuation of these people to the territory of Egypt," Nahorny added.
