Several hundred Ukrainians cannot leave Gaza Strip, – ambassador

Several hundred Ukrainian citizens are currently in the Gaza Strip. This was stated by Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Mykhailo Brodsky at a press conference on October 31, Interfax-Ukraine reports. The diplomat clarified that these are mostly women with children.

As the ambassador emphasized, these people, like other residents of the Gaza Strip, are now "actually hostages of Hamas terrorists," who use them as human shields.

"Naturally, it will be impossible to organize the evacuation of these people through Israel, it can be done through Egypt, through the Rafah and other checkpoints," Brodsky said.

According to him, constant contact is maintained with the Ukrainian Embassy in Israel, but it is virtually impossible to organize the evacuation now, because Hamas does not let people out of the Gaza Strip.

The ambassador also said that 25 Ukrainians have been killed as a result of Hamas' attack on Israel.

According to Brodsky, most of the Ukrainians who died in Israel had dual citizenship.

"They had both Israeli and Ukrainian citizenship, and their families were in Israel. We received requests, I think, for two Ukrainians who were killed and whose families are in Ukraine. And there were requests to bury the bodies in Ukraine. But most of those who died will be buried in Israel because their families also live in Israel," he said.
