The IDF is ready for a ground operation in the Gaza Strip, but is postponing it for "strategic reasons." This will allow the Israeli Defense Forces to better prepare. This was reported by the IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, as quoted by The Times of Israel.

The general notes that the Hamas terrorist organization regrets the outbreak of the conflict with Israel. However, he confirms that the ground operation is postponed due to "strategic considerations."

"We have prepared for this. The IDF and the Southern Command have prepared high-quality offensive plans to achieve the goals of the war... The IDF is ready for a (ground - ed.) maneuver, and we will decide with the political echelon on the form and timing of the next stage," he said.

Halevi noted that there are certain "tactical and even strategic considerations" that delay the ground offensive, but allow the IDF to better prepare.

"We are using every minute to be even more prepared. And every minute that passes on the other side, we deal the enemy an even bigger blow. Killing terrorists, destroying infrastructure, gathering more intelligence for the next stage," he added.

The lieutenant general noted that the IDF will defend its state at all costs.

"What has happened is unprecedented since the founding of the state. It will require fundamental changes in our security reality. We will have to pay for it, including in terms of the duration of the war," he said.

Halevi emphasizes that Hamas leaders and those who followed their orders "will be held accountable for their actions."

He also warns that there is nothing that can atone for Hamas's actions on October 7.

"The IDF is at war with Hamas, not with the people of Gaza. The IDF wants the people of Gaza to come through this war as unscathed as possible," he said.

In this regard, Israel calls on citizens to evacuate to safe areas where they will be provided with food, water and medical care. At the same time, Israel intends to provide fuel where it is needed for the civilian population, but will not allow it to be used by Hamas to continue fighting.
