The underwater telecommunication cable between Sweden and Estonia was damaged as a result of external influence. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Defense of Sweden.

"It has been confirmed that the cable was damaged as a result of external influence or unauthorized interference. The damage did not affect the operation of the cable. The damage occurred in the Estonian economic zone," the statement said. 

The ministry noted that the incident may be related to other damages on the Finnish-Estonian gas pipeline and the Finnish-Estonian communication cable. The Swedish Police, Security Service, Armed Forces and Coast Guard contacted their Finnish and Estonian counterparts to offer support and assistance in connection with the investigation and damage to the Finnish-Estonian cables. 

The Swedish Armed Forces ship HMS Belos arrived at the scene to investigate, the ministry said. 

As a reminder, the authorities reported the damage to the underwater communication cable in the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Estonia on October 17.
