Israel's military operation against Hamas will be "unparalleled in its brutality," Reuters writes, citing sources.
It will be "unlike anything Israel has conducted in the Gaza Strip in the past."
"Israel's immediate strategy is to destroy Gaza's infrastructure, even at the cost of heavy civilian casualties, push the enclave's population toward the Egyptian border and harass Hamas by blowing up its maze of underground tunnels the group has built to conduct its operations," the publication writes.
Israeli officials have said anonymously that they have no clear idea what the post-war future of Gaza might look like. The United States is concerned about the lack of such a plan.
The publication claims that a post-war plan for the Gaza Strip was discussed during the visits to Israel by Secretary of State Blinken and Defense Secretary Austin last week. And the military operation itself raises questions, given the extent of Hamas' underground tunnels. According to regional military experts, the militants prepared for the invasion by installing various ambush mines.
