The Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin said that the country is withdrawing its ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. This was reported by Reuters.
The Russian official on Tuesday, October 17, explained the Kremlin's decision by the US' allegedly "irresponsible attitude to global security."
"In the interests of ensuring the security of our country, we are withdrawing the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty," he said in a statement before the debate and parliamentary vote on the withdrawal of ratification.
Earlier, on October 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was not ready to say whether Russia should resume nuclear tests after some Russian security experts and lawmakers called for a nuclear bomb test to "warn" the West.
