Ukraine's crops and oil harvest this year will total 79 million tons, which is 10% more than in the previous year. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced plans to export three quarters of this harvest. He made the announcement during a government meeting.
"About 25% of the harvested grain is enough for our domestic needs, and the rest should be exported. As these are resources for farmers, foreign exchange earnings for the state, and food for hungry countries," he said.
Shmyhal also emphasized the importance of using western transit routes for grain exports.
"We need wide transit routes for food exports. This is important for the stability of our economy. This is important for the world, as it is global food security," Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister expressed hope for the effective functioning of the proposed mechanisms for checking and controlling Ukrainian agricultural exports, supporting the European Union in creating solidarity transit routes, as well as expanding the capacity of the Danube ports and opening new grain routes.
