Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijártó has expressed his belief that the war in Ukraine is causing suffering to the whole world due to the "globalization of the conflict" by the European Union.
"The whole world is suffering from the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the whole world is suffering because Europe has not localized or isolated this conflict, it is globalized in the world. The majority of people in the world are in favor of peace, even if the European transatlantic public, the political environment, and the media want to create a completely different image," Szijártó said.
Szijártó also believes that Hungary is the only country in Europe that calls for an end to the war and the start of peace negotiations.
"This position of ours is highly appreciated outside of Europe, most countries outside of Europe expect that this position of Hungary will win and become a common European position," the minister said.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko believes it is necessary to request an explanation from Hungary in Brussels over Szijártó's remarks. Nikolenko believes that the Hungarian minister is "spreading disinformation against the European Union in the interests of Russia."
Nikolenko emphasized: "This is not only about Ukraine, but also about Hungary's attempts to undermine European positions in Asia."
