Ukraine and Germany plan to build a wind farm around Chornobyl NPP

During her visit to Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited an electric substation located 50 kilometers from Kyiv and called for an increase in the share of renewable energy. This was reported by the ARD TV channel.

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov told the German side about the measures taken by the Ukrainian government to ensure the country's energy supply before the approach of winter.

The power plant, which has a capacity of approximately 2,000 megawatts, is located on an area of about 40 hectares and provides a significant part of the regional power supply. The plant has been attacked several times by Russian missiles and Iranian-origin kamikaze drones. In particular, before the New Year, there was a serious attack that led to the destruction of some facilities, but they were later restored. Currently, nets are set up around the facility to intercept low-flying drones.

Baerbock, who is a member of the German Green Party, also expressed support for the development of renewable energy in Ukraine. According to her, Ukraine should make more active use of renewable energy sources, in particular, build wind farms around the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.

The parties signed a declaration of intent at the meeting at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

Earlier, we reported that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock unexpectedly arrived in Kyiv on Monday, September 11, without announcing her visit in advance, possibly to ensure security. This was reported by DW.
