Arrests in Cuba: an attempt to recruit militants to participate in the war against Ukraine

In Cuba, authorities detained 17 people who tried to recruit young Cubans to serve in the Russian army during the conflict with Ukraine. They face possible punishments, including execution. This was reported by Reuters.

"As a result of the investigation, 17 people have been arrested so far, including the internal organizer of these actions," said Cesar Rodriguez, a colonel in the Cuban Interior Ministry.

Rodriguez did not reveal the identities of the accused, but noted that the leader of the group depended on two people living on the island to recruit Cubans who were ready to participate in the conflict on the side of Russia.

Prosecutor Jose Luis Reyes noted that those involved in the scandal could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison, life imprisonment or the death penalty, depending on the nature and severity of the crimes, including human trafficking, mercenarism and hostile acts against a foreign state.
