Russia has been seen trying to recruit Cuban citizens to participate in military operations against Ukraine. The Cuban Foreign Ministry said that the country is working to neutralize and eliminate this recruitment network.
"The Ministry of the Interior Affairs has identified and is working to neutralize and eliminate a recruitment network that operated from the territory of Russia to attract Cuban citizens living there, as well as some of them living in Cuba, to the armed forces participating in military operations in Ukraine," the statement said.
According to the report, such recruitment attempts have been successfully prevented and criminal cases have been initiated against those involved in these activities.
"Cuba's enemies are spreading distorted information to tarnish the country's image and present it as complicit in these actions, which we strongly reject," the Cuban Foreign Ministry emphasizes.
The ministry also emphasizes that Cuba strongly opposes mercenarism and actively contributes to the UN's efforts.
"Cuba is not a participant in the war in Ukraine. It is and will continue to act decisively against those who engage in any form of human trafficking on its national territory for the purpose of recruitment so that Cuban citizens can take up arms against any country," the Cuban Foreign Ministry summarizes.
