The US has seized Russian assets worth $1 billion - US Attorney General

According to information received from US Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, US authorities have seized more than $1 billion worth of Russian private assets abroad, CBS reports.

According to Monaco, such actions included the detention of aircraft in Switzerland and the Middle East, the arrest of smugglers in Germany, Italy and Latvia, and the filing of money laundering charges in the United Kingdom. These measures indicate that Russian assets cannot hide from international services.

Monaco also reported that the KleptoCapture working group, which operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice and was established in the spring of 2022, is actively searching for hidden assets of Russians in cooperation with foreign partners.

It should be noted that these actions reflect the joint efforts of the international community to isolate the Russian Putin regime. Monaco also emphasized that the funds received as a result of these actions can be used for the needs of the Ukrainian people, although this requires congressional authorization.

It is also important to note that the United States recently imposed sanctions on four Russian billionaires as part of its support for Ukraine in the conflict.
