A patrol policeman has been detained in a case of murder and abuse of power in Dnipro, the Prosecutor General's Office reports.
The incident occurred on August 29 in one of the city's districts, when two patrol policemen stopped a car with minor children in it.
"The driver and passengers refused to get out of the car. Law enforcement officers began to force the victims out of the car and used pepper spray. During the scuffle, the policeman used his service weapon and made three shots in the passenger's back. The victim died on the spot from his gunshot wounds," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
The investigation has launched a pre-trial investigation into the facts of premeditated murder and abuse of power by law enforcement officials.
A video of the incident was posted online, showing police officers trying to force the woman out of the car. During the struggle, a man gets out of the car and tries to pull the police officers away. In response, a gas canister was used, and then shots were fired. The man was shot dead in front of his children.
