Poland insists on exhumation of victims of Volyn tragedy - Duda

Polish President Andrzej Duda has expressed the importance for Warsaw to obtain permission to exhume all the victims of the Volyn tragedy, PAP reports, referring to his statements in an interview with Polish media.

The President emphasized that it is extremely important for Poland that each victim be given a decent burial.

"That's why we demand the possibility of conducting search operations. So that the remains can be identified and buried with dignity, so that relatives can light a candle on the grave and pray," the politician said.

He also noted that this process is "complicated" and it is difficult to predict when further progress will be made.

"I have been trying to achieve this since the beginning of my presidential term. And what we were able to get from President Zelensky in this matter - also his presence in Lutsk and commemoration of the fallen - is something we could not have counted on before... I would like us to appreciate this step by the President of Ukraine," Duda emphasized.
