In the Odesa region, the construction of a road with a bridge over the Dniester estuary is planned, which will replace the bridge damaged by the Russians.
"Yug.Today, referring to the "Program of Socio-Economic and Cultural Development of Odesa Region for 2023 and the Main Areas of Development for 2024-2025" approved by the regional council, informs about this initiative. It is planned to start implementing the project next year.
"The condition of the road surface and the capacity of the Black Sea roads in the area from the mouth of the Danube to the mouth of the Dnipro are becoming an important element of the national security strategy. In this context, the vulnerability of transport logistics between the Danube and the Dniester is becoming increasingly important. The solution to this problem will be the construction of a bridge across the Dniester Estuary," the document says. According to media reports, the bridge across the Dniester Estuary, which has been repeatedly attacked by the Russian military, is not only strategically important but also economically justified, as it will reduce the distance for traffic flows to the southern regions of Europe.
In the spring of 2022, the Russian army attacked the Zatoka bridge four times, which crosses the Dniester estuary and connects the southern region with the mainland of Ukraine. As a result of repeated missile attacks, the facility could not be fully restored. Traffic on the bridge is currently closed. In addition to two pedestrian walkways, the bridge has two lanes for vehicles and a railroad track.
