NATO will increase its headquarters in connection with the expansion

NATO is considering building an additional building and reorganizing current office space to make room for Finland, which recently joined the alliance, and for potential future members.

 This was reported by Euractiv.

As NATO diplomats reported, the building of the Western military alliance in Brussels, inaugurated in 2018, is becoming too small to accommodate delegations of future members.

"Finland's transition to NATO headquarters will be completed in the coming weeks and months. This will also apply to Sweden if it joins NATO as a full member," said an official representative of the alliance.

But the problem is, as the publication notes, that none of these delegations will fit in the current building. The alliance envisioned expansion in the distant future, the general idea being to build an additional wing in the new headquarters when the time was right.

However, Finland has joined NATO in less than 12 months, Sweden is also set to become a member of the alliance in the near future, and the potential entry of Ukraine and Georgia in the near future is not out of the question.

According to the publication, the administration is considering the possibility of building an additional building on the territory of the NATO military town, intended for the accommodation of international employees and agencies. This is considered to be only a temporary solution, but its rapid implementation aims to address urgent needs.
