A Finnish Air Force Hawk trainer jet crashed on Monday afternoon in Keuruu in the central part of the country.

This is reported by Helsingin Sanomat.

During the fall of the plane, two pilots were able to eject and land in the swamp with parachutes.

Air Force Chief of Staff Brigadier General Timo Herranen said that both pilots were conscious when they were quickly found by rescuers.

"They walked on their feet," says Herranen.

According to Herranen, the accident occurred in a "normal training situation" of flight training. The plane had a pilot and an instructor pilot.

"For now, I will not comment on the reasons in more detail. The usual investigation of the plane crash will be conducted," - says Herranen.

The accident was reported at 2:15 p.m. The accident site is located northwest of the city center of Keuruu.

According to Timo Herranen, the fall of the plane did not cause any danger to passers-by.

"The plane is now on the ground, the area is isolated, rescue operations are underway," he added.
