Moldova can withdraw from the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States, said on May 15 the Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova Ihor Grosu. He wants to initiate a legal procedure that will allow "to take the first step to leave the Commonwealth," writes NewsMaker.
"As the head of the parliament, I announce that I have initiated the procedure for Moldova's withdrawal from the CIS interparliamentary assembly," Grosu said.
On May 15, the Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova, Ihor Grosu, announced that the country may withdraw from the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS. According to him, he wants to initiate a legal procedure that will allow "to take the first step to leave the Commonwealth."
Grosu added that he had already discussed the initiative with the citizens, the parliamentary faction of the Action and Solidarity party (PAS), as well as with the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu.
Grosu also stated that he intends to inform Prime Minister Dorin Rechan of his initiative and prepare a draft law for the next meeting of the Standing Bureau of the Parliament.
"After Russia, the founder of the CIS, barbarically attacked Ukraine, this organization can no longer be called a community. This will be the first step for our country's withdrawal from the CIS, from which Moldova is geographically separated after Ukraine's withdrawal," he said.
Before this, Grosu noted that Moldova can no longer "remain at the same negotiating table with an aggressor country" and must separate from the CIS.
"We are ready to separate ourselves from the source of evil, war and poverty. For 30 years we have proven that we want prosperity and democracy and a better future. The CIS is an organization created by Russia on the ruins of the USSR to keep the former Soviet republics under control. We can no longer remain at the same negotiating table with the aggressor country," Grosu emphasized.
