Putin's May 9 speech "grotesque perversion" and "distortion of history" - Sky News

The speech of the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is a "grotesque perversion" and a "distortion of history", assessed the international affairs editor of Sky News Dominic Wahorn, commenting on his statement at the parade until May 9 in Moscow.

"Well, it was short, wasn't it? But it was classic Putin," Dominic Waghorn said after Putin's speech was over.

He said it was the same story that Putin had been "peddling throughout this war," that "Russia is under attack by Russophobic Western elites" who allegedly seek to undo the results of World War II and destabilize the world order.

"His story is that Russia is continuing the good cause of World War II, and he and his propagandists have been saying for some time that World War II was actually Russia against the rest, against the West," Dominique Wahorn noted.

"They even said that the West created the Nazis," he added, calling it a "grotesque perversion and distortion of history."

"But this is the line he offers to those who want to believe it in the Russian state media, many of whom believe it," the expert noted.

The aerial part of the May 9 parade in Moscow was canceled at the last moment. The parade lasted about 45 minutes and took place without an aerial part - and its cancellation was not announced in advance. During the parade, Soviet T-34 and T-85 tanks, Yars, S-400 and Iskander-M missile complexes passed through Red Square, according to rosZMI.
