EU ministers are planning to agree on a new sanctions regime for the destabilization of Moldova

At the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the EU countries in Luxembourg, they should reach a political agreement on the introduction of a new sanctions regime of the European Union against persons who are involved in destabilizing the internal situation in Moldova.

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Bohdan Aurescu.

He said that two important decisions regarding Moldova are expected at the meeting.

"The first decision is a political agreement, which I hope will be reached, I am convinced that it has been reached regarding the creation of a new sanctions regime against those who work to destabilize the country and violate the constitutional order of the Republic of Moldova," Aurescu said.

The minister recalled that he proposed it at the end of February and is glad that the initiative quickly received support. "This is probably the fastest process of creating a new sanctions mechanism in the history of the EU. It will be an important tool to increase the stability and security of the Republic of Moldova against the background of actions directed from Russia: these are demonstrations and subversive activities against the constitutional order of Moldova, which we have observed in the last months," said Aurescu.

Sanctions will include entry bans and asset freezes.

He also repeated the announcement by the EU's chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, about the creation of an EU civilian mission in Moldova, which will help it become more resistant to hybrid threats.

He called the second priority topic of the meeting the support of Ukraine so that it could win the war.
