Some of Ukraine's allies, in particular the United States, are considering introducing an almost complete ban on the export of goods to Russia.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
The publication notes that, according to unnamed sources, officials of the "Big Seven" countries are discussing such restrictions before the May summit in Japan. At the same time, it is planned to join the ban on exports and the countries of the European Union. Such an idea is at the stage of discussions, it can be revised.
The publication's interlocutors clarified that the restrictions include a ban on the export of all goods, only if they are not included in the list of exceptions. At the same time, the sale of Russian goods is now allowed, if sanctions do not prohibit it.
If such a move is approved, the G7 leaders must agree on a list of exceptions. Medicines and agricultural products are likely to be there, the journalists add.
Bloomberg emphasizes that there are now serious obstacles to the introduction of such restrictions. In particular, this is due to the fact that the new criteria must be approved by all EU countries, and this will cause intense debates.
According to the Geneva organization Trade Data Monitor, Russia continues to receive goods from Europe, the USA, Canada and Japan worth 66 billion dollars. And the members of the "Big Seven" consider supplies too profitable for the Kremlin in wartime conditions. Especially since the Russian Federation continues to find ways to circumvent sanctions, the publication writes.
