The representative of the European Union in Sudan, the Irish diplomat Aidan O'Hara, was attacked in his residence in Khartoum.

This was announced by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, on Twitter.

"A few hours ago, the EU ambassador to Sudan was attacked in his own residence," Borrell wrote late Monday.

According to Borrell, what happened is a gross violation of the Vienna Convention. "The security of diplomatic premises and personnel is the main responsibility of the Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law," he emphasized.

Borrell did not provide details about the attack on the residence of the EU representative in Sudan. As the DPA agency writes with reference to sources in diplomatic circles, O'Hara was not injured and is doing well now.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that a US diplomatic convoy came under fire in Sudan as a result of an attack by militants linked to the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF), writes Reuters.

"I can confirm that an American diplomatic convoy was fired upon yesterday. I have made it very clear that any threats of attacks that endanger our diplomats are absolutely unacceptable," Blinken said.

According to him, the people in the diplomatic convoy are now safe.

It will be recalled that on Saturday, during the coup attempt in Sudan, the plane of the Ukrainian low-cost SkyUp Boeing 737 caught fire.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the members of the Ukrainian aviation crew who were at Khartoum International Airport managed to be taken to a safe place.
