Denmark abolishes border controls with Sweden and changes them for Germany

Denmark is abolishing the border control that operated on the border with Sweden and will change the emphasis in border control near the border with Germany.

As "European Truth" reports, this is stated in the statement of the Danish government.

On April 14, Denmark informed the European Commission that it is abolishing border controls with Sweden.

Border controls at the border with Germany will continue for the next 6 months and will be more focused on fighting cross-border crime than entry control.

As noted, this will in practice mean the simplification of movement for people who regularly cross the border between countries.

The changes will take effect from May 12.

Denmark has introduced temporary border controls on the border with Germany since January 2016, and on the border with Sweden since November 2019.

The decision to extend border control with Germany is explained by the fact that Denmark remains a significant terrorist threat, as well as the risks of foreign intelligence services.
