281 liters of wine were tried to be smuggled through the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint on the border of Georgia and Russia, the North Ossetian Customs said.
According to the agency, customs officers found 151 bottles of Georgian wine of various brands in a car belonging to a citizen of Georgia.
"The man explained that he was importing wine for personal use," the North Ossetian Customs Service said in a statement.
The department reminded that it is forbidden to import more than five liters of alcoholic products through the customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union.
"At the same time, alcohol in excess of three liters must be entered in the declaration, and for each liter over the norm, customs duties and taxes in the amount of 10 euros per liter must be paid," the message said.
The customs office initiated an administrative offense case against a Georgian citizen.
