Russia lost elections to three UN bodies this week

Russia lost elections to three United Nations bodies this week. Therefore, resistance to its invasion of Ukraine more than a year ago remains strong.

The Associated Press writes about it.

In particular, during the vote in the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, which consists of 54 members, Russia was defeated by Romania in the fight for a place in the Commission on the Status of Women.

Thus, the occupying country lost to Estonia the membership of the executive board of the UN children's agency UNICEF, and also conceded to Armenia and the Czech Republic during a secret vote for membership in the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

"This is a clear signal from ECOSOC members that no country should take positions in critical UN bodies when they flagrantly violate the UN Charter," US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said.

However, Russia was elected to the Social Development Commission by acclamation and to the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Accounting and Reporting Standards.

We will remind you that this month Russia will chair the UN Security Council.

After that, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, urged the members of the UN Security Council not to allow the aggressor country to abuse its presidency in this body.

It was also reported that recently Great Britain blocked the online participation in the meeting of the UN Security Council of the Commissioner for the Rights of the Russian Federation Maria Lvova-Belova, who was declared wanted by the International Criminal Court together with the Russian dictator Putin.
