International reserves of Ukraine have become a record for 11 years

International reserves of Ukraine increased to 31.9 billion dollars. According to the results of March, the US reached an eleven-year high, the National Bank reported.

"As of April 1, 2023, Ukraine's international reserves, according to preliminary data, amounted to USD 31,878.2 million. This amount of reserves is a record for the last 11 years (a larger amount than the above was recorded back in November 2011)," - noted in NBU.

In March, as reported, reserves increased by 10% "due to inflows from international partners against the background of lower volumes of net sales of currency by the National Bank and moderate debt payments of the country in foreign currency."

At the same time, it is noted that USD 5,105.4 million was deposited into the government's currency accounts at the National Bank. The Government of Ukraine paid 486.8 million dollars in foreign currency for servicing and repayment of the national debt. In particular, Ukraine paid 638.6 million dollars to the International Monetary Fund.

It is also noted that in March the NBU sold 1,674.1 million dollars on the foreign exchange market. and bought into reserves - 5.2 million dollars. USA.

"Therefore, the net sale of foreign currency by the NBU last month decreased compared to February 2023 by USD 783.1 million - to USD 1,668.9 million. The volume of NBU interventions in the sale of foreign currency on the foreign exchange market of Ukraine decreased for the third month in a row ", the National Bank reported.

Such dynamics in March were explained by the NBU by several factors: the seasonal factor, the limitation of unproductive capital outflow (including due to the regulation of activities in the field of gambling business) and the stabilization of exchange rate expectations.

"The current volume of international reserves provides financing for 4.2 months of future imports," the National Bank added.

In April, Ukraine received the first tranche of $2.7 billion from the IMF.
