Co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Georgia on Monday expressed concern about the country's move towards European integration, calling for comprehensive reforms and strengthening the rule of law.
This is stated in the conclusion of PACE co-rapporteurs on Georgia - Claude Kern and Edith Estrela.
Parliamentarians visited Georgia on March 27-29, 2023. The visit focused on recent developments, democratic reforms, political environment, polarization, judicial reform, anti-corruption and human rights issues.
In a statement released following the visit, the PACE co-rapporteurs on Georgia emphasized that the country's society shares European aspirations and deserves a future in the European Union.
"Georgia is at a crossroads. We call on the Georgian authorities and all political forces to overcome extreme hostility and polarization, reject narrow party interests and work together with all interested parties on the implementation of the 12 priority areas of reforms identified by the European Commission in order for the country to receive the status of a candidate for the EU ", the co-reporters noted.
