Because of the presentation of the award to Saakashvili, the Norwegian ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Lasha Darsalia, met with the Ambassador of Norway in Tbilisi, Helen Sand Andersen.

As reported in the Georgian foreign policy department, the meeting took place in connection with the awarding of the Norwegian Conservative Party's award to Mykhailo Saakashvili for the promotion of human rights and the Norwegian diplomat's comment on this matter.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Iraklii Garibashvili, said that awarding the award to Mykhailo Saakashvili is a mockery of the Georgian people. At the same time, he compared the former president of the country with Anders Breivik, who was convicted of terrorist attacks in Norway, in which 77 people died. The Norwegian ambassador called the comparison "extremely inappropriate."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia stated that the decision of the Conservative Party does not contribute to the depolarization of Georgian society and is offensive to citizens and their family members who became victims of criminal acts committed during the rule of Saakashvili.

As the ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway noted at the meeting, awarding Mykhailo Saakashvili does not represent the position of the Norwegian government, but is an initiative of a specific political party. At the meeting, the parties once again confirmed the friendly relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of Norway and expressed their readiness to promote the development of cooperation between the countries in the future," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia said.

Today, in Tbilisi, an action against the awarding of the award to Mykhailo Saakashvili took place near the Norwegian Embassy. It was organized by persons who suffered during the years of the third president of Georgia and family members of the former head of the Control Chamber of Georgia Sulkhan Molashvili, who was brutally tortured in prison.

Georgian Dream continues to compare Saakashvili with terrorist Anders Breivik. This was announced by the leader of the parliamentary majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze, following the Prime Minister.

"Breivik himself pulled the trigger, and Mykhailo Saakashvili created a system where there were many people who pulled the trigger... To give Mykhailo Saakashvili an award in the field of human rights protection is extreme cynicism. Contradictory evidence and whitewashing of Saakashvili is extreme cynicism towards the Georgian people," said Mamuka Mdynaradze.
