On Wednesday, March 22, the Swedish parliament voted for the country's accession to NATO. The historic decision came after parliament debated legislation on the alliance.
This is reported by Aftonbladet.
Since the Social Democrats changed their position on NATO membership in May 2022, a large majority in parliament wanted to join the alliance.
Today, the actual decision was made after voting in the parliament with the result of 269 "for" and 37 "against" votes.
However, for Sweden to join NATO, it is necessary that Turkey and Hungary ratify Sweden's application.
We will remind you that Turkey believes that Sweden is not doing enough to join NATO.
At the same time, Sweden hopes to ratify the NATO membership application before the Alliance summit in July.
