In many French cities, new protests began on Monday after the failure of votes of no confidence in the government and the approval of the pension reform, several hundred people were detained.
This is reported by BFMTV.
Thousands of people took to the streets all over the country again, dissatisfied with the failure of the no-confidence vote in the government and the final approval of the pension reform. This time, the protesters demanded not only the rejection of the reform, but also the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron and the government of Elizabeth Bourne.
Protests were held in Paris, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Lyon, Rennes, Toulouse and dozens of other cities. Some participants of the demonstrations set fire to trash cans and beat billboards. In the town of Abbeville, protesters broke into the town hall building, and in Brest, the police had to protect the office of one of the deputies.
The most serious clashes between security forces and protesters took place in the capital, in particular, cases of unjustified use of force by law enforcement officers were noted.
BFMTV, citing police sources, reports at least 142 arrests in Paris alone. The interlocutors of Le Figaro cite even higher figures - more than 240 detainees in the capital, mainly for arson and vandalism on the streets.
The trade unions, meanwhile, are calling on their members to "increase mobilization" and go on regular mass demonstrations from March 23 onwards.
It will be recalled that President Emmanuel Macron decided to use a special procedure to bypass the parliament to approve the pension reform, as there were doubts that there would be enough votes in the National Assembly for its approval.
This procedure also involves a vote of confidence in the government - but the government was able to avoid resignation by a margin of nine votes.
Opposition parties will challenge the draft law in the Constitutional Council, which can decide on its partial or full repeal if it is deemed to violate the Constitution.
Opinion polls show that 68% of French people want the resignation of the government after the decision to sell the pension reform under a special procedure to bypass the parliament.
