The European Union called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to take advantage of the "historic opportunity" to settle their differences and return to the negotiating table.

"We call on the leaders of the two countries to take advantage of the historic opportunity for the final settlement of this conflict and to return to a meaningful dialogue," European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varkhela said during the plenary session of the European Parliament devoted to relations between Baku and Brussels.

"Many important issues require an urgent solution," the commissioner emphasized.

Varhei expressed his full support for the efforts of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, aimed at dialogue between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia on all issues related to the peace process, including the future peace agreement and border delimitation.

As the European Commissioner emphasized, the European Union sent a mission (EUMA) to Armenia "to reduce tensions and support the peace process."

"This is an important step to strengthen stability and strengthen the role of the European Union in the region," Varhey said.
