The Danish government and the vast majority of parties in the Danish parliament have agreed to create a fund of 7 billion Danish kroner (1 billion US dollars) for civil, military and economic aid to Ukraine.
This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Finance of Denmark.
"With today's agreement, we are allocating slightly more than 7 billion Danish kroner to help Ukraine. I am glad that the broad majority in the Danish parliament is taking responsibility and demonstrating that Denmark stands together with Ukraine. Denmark is already one of the countries that - compared to by our size - supports Ukraine the most. This is what the government and the parties to the agreement agree to remain in the future," said Finance Minister Mykola Vammen.
"Ukrainians are fighting not only for their own freedom, but also for the security of the whole of Europe. With the Ukrainian Fund, we are taking Danish support to Ukraine to a new level. This applies not least to the business sphere. Danish companies can supply much of what is lacking To Ukraine, for example, drinking water, central heating and food products. Therefore, we must increase our efforts," said the head of the Foreign Ministry, Lars Lekke Rasmussen.
It is noted that the fund is aimed at Ukraine's needs and wishes regarding Denmark's concerted efforts, which will focus on military, civil and commercial support.
The funds of the fund are intended for assistance in 2023.
In addition, funds are earmarked in 2024-2027 to help cover the cost of replacing military equipment associated with military donations made in 2022 and 2023.
The fund will consist of three components:
- Military support for Ukraine's struggle for freedom in the form of weapons, other military equipment and training events. Approximately DKK 5.4 billion is earmarked for military support in 2023.
- Civic support aimed at immediate humanitarian efforts as well as long-term reconstruction. 1.2 billion Danish kroner has been reserved for this purpose.
- Support for business initiatives that give Danish companies the opportunity to contribute to the recovery of Ukraine. 0.4 billion Danish kroner has been reserved for this.
Acting Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen noted that at this time, Denmark provided military support to Ukraine in the amount of about 5 billion Danish kroner, and with the help of the newly created Ukrainian Fund, the country aims to maintain a high level of military support.
"This should have a real and tangible meaning for Ukrainians. Their struggle is also our struggle," he said.
