The tariff-free import of wheat from Ukraine makes production in Bulgaria uncompetitive, protest coordinator Dimitar Dimoitrov told the Bulgarian state radio station BNT.
Grain imported from Ukraine is 30% cheaper than grain produced in Bulgaria. A similar situation also arose as a result of the import of cheaper sunflower seeds from Ukraine.
"The market has collapsed, the warehouses are overcrowded", - this is how Dimoitrov described the situation.
The European Union is not considering the option of introducing previously canceled tariffs on Ukrainian agricultural products, despite the fact that the increased volume of imports of agricultural goods from Ukraine to the EU has affected farmers in countries bordering it.
