US intelligence is warning that individuals linked to Russian intelligence may be planning to try to provoke unrest in Moldova, according to a March 10 report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
"On March 10, CNN reported that, according to White House officials, individuals connected to Russian intelligence are planning to organize protests against the Moldovan government in order to foment a 'fake uprising' to install a pro-Russian administration in Moldova. CNN reported that, according to The United States, Russia are spreading disinformation about the alleged instability of Moldova and supporting it with information operations that come from Transnistria, which is occupied by Russia," the message reads.
ISW recently reported on several information operations in Transnistria aimed at undermining the Moldovan government and fueling mistrust of Ukraine and the West.
