The Parliament of Georgia rejected the bill "On transparency of foreign influence" in the second reading. Thus, the ruling "Georgian Dream" and the initiators of the "Power of the People" document fulfilled the demand of the protesters on the streets of Tbilisi, reports Sova News.
Only one question was brought up for today's session of the parliament. People's Power MP Guram Macharashvili said that the decision on the draft law has already been taken, so the vote is only a formal matter necessary to bring the matter to an end. He called for voting to begin without discussion.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, also noted that a general consensus was reached on the issue of withdrawing the draft law, so there is no point in the discussion.
As a result, the meeting ended in just a few minutes. The issue of the adoption of the law "On transparency of foreign influence" was put to a vote and immediately failed. After that, Papuashvili declared the meeting closed.
Clashes between protesters and law enforcement officers took place after the Parliament of Georgia on the evening of March 7, in an accelerated mode, approved in the first reading the draft law "On transparency of foreign influence", or "foreign agents". The police used pepper spray, water cannons and other special means against the demonstrators.
