The Cabinet of Ministers submitted to the Council a draft law on withdrawing from the Agreement on State Social Assistance to Family Members of Servicemen Who Died in Afghanistan and Other States Where Military Operations Were Conducted.
This is reported in draft law No. 0190.
As noted in the explanatory note to the project, the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the participation of the Republic of Belarus in it completely violates the principles and norms of international law, as well as nullifies the goals that Ukraine was guided by when concluding international agreements within the framework of the CIS.
Therefore, Ukraine is taking measures to terminate the validity of such international agreements for Ukraine, in particular in the field of social security, the document emphasizes.
The agreement was signed in 1993 in Moscow, but ratified by the Verkhovna Rada only in April 2011, when the power in Ukraine temporarily belonged to Viktor Yanukovych and the Party of Regions.
The agreement provides for preferential pension terms for family members of servicemen who died in Afghanistan and other countries where hostilities took place.
The USSR waged a war of aggression in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989. The war ended with the defeat and flight of the Soviet troops.
