A court in Minsk sentenced Svitlana Tykhanouska, a former candidate for the presidency of Belarus, in absentia. She was sentenced to 15 years behind bars.

 This is reported by Belta.

Tykhanouska was found guilty of "conspiracy committed with the aim of seizing state power by unconstitutional means."

The Belarusian opposition leader was also accused of "creating an extremist formation and leading it, publicly calling for a seizure of power and actions aimed at harming the national security of Belarus."

In addition, the Belarusian regime condemned the opposition politician, ex-diplomat Pavlo Latushko. He was sentenced in absentia to 18 years of strict regime in a penal colony.

It will be recalled that in 2020, Svitlana Tykhanovska took part in the presidential elections in Belarus after her husband was denied admission by the Central Election Commission. Later, Serhiy Tykhanovskyi was arrested and thrown into prison.

According to the Belarusian Central Committee, Tykhanovskaya took second place and received 10% of the vote. However, oppositionists believe that 70-80% of voters voted for her.
