The Bundestag rejected the initiative of the left regarding "diplomacy instead of tanks" for Ukraine

The left-wing faction in the Bundestag was defeated in its bid to end arms supplies to Ukraine and focus on diplomacy.

 This is reported by Tagesschau.

The Social Democratic Party of Germany, the Greens, the Free Democratic Party and the Christian Democratic Union voted against the "Diplomacy instead of Tanks" proposal. The far-right "Alternative for Germany" abstained.

Left-wing internationalist politician Gregor Gizi condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine. At the same time, he said that it is wrong to call the supporters of the ceasefire "servants of Putin".

As an idea, Gizi proposed that NATO should promise to refrain from further arms deliveries if Russia agreed to a cease-fire.

Speakers from the SPD, Greens, and VDP factions of the government, as well as the CDU/CSU, denied that without the supply of weapons, Ukraine would be invaded, and a stable world would be impossible.

Defense Committee Chair Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann said of Russian President Vladimir Putin: "He only understands the language of force."
