The US is supporting a new International Monetary Fund loan program for Ukraine in addition to US $10 billion in aid.

This was stated by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen at the G20 summit, Reuters reports.

Yellen's speech, prepared for a press conference in Bangalore, India, emphasized that it was very important for the IMF to "move quickly" on the program.

"As President Biden said, we will support Ukraine in its struggle for as long as it takes," she said, adding that "continued and reliable support for Ukraine will be the main topic of discussion during my stay here in India."

Yellen said that previous US military, economic and humanitarian aid in the amount of 46 billion dollars allowed Ukraine to maintain economic and financial stability under "more extraordinary circumstances".

"Our economic aid enables Ukraine's resistance by supporting the rear: financing the most important public services and helping the government to work. In the coming months, we expect to provide Ukraine with additional economic support in the amount of about 10 billion dollars," she added.

The US aid was approved by Congress in December as part of a sweeping government funding bill that included a new $45 billion emergency military and other aid package for Ukraine.

We will remind, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a meeting with the head of the IMF Kristina Georgieva in Kyiv on February 20 stated that Ukraine wants to receive a new program of 15 billion dollars from the International Monetary Fund.
